Usually ...OMG, I am *constantly* spelling my name. Usually this is the exchange I'll have with someone, at, say, a restaurant or a phone conversation.

Them: "What's your name?"
Me: "Siobhan."
Them: "OK, Shivawn, can you spell that please?"
Me: *heavy sigh* "S-I-O (pause for them to write it down) B as in Boy (pause again) H-A-N."
Them: "OK, thanks Si-bon."

NO, DAMMIT, you were pronouncing it correctly until I spelled it for you. LISTEN WHEN I SAY IT. DON'T LOOK AT HOW IT'S SPELLED.

I tend to cut people who are just meeting me a lot slack in learning the name. BUT I also get really upset when people that I've known for three, four, five years consistently mispronounce or misspell my name. My window for patient understanding with my name is about six months; beyond that, I become very temperamental. It tends to be my bosses/administrators who do this. DUDE. I've been working here for FOUR YEARS. IT'S PRONOUNCED SHI-VAWN, DAMMIT. GET IT THE EFF RIGHT.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-51057767507057852442012-07-26T17:08:36.700-04:002012-07-26T17:08:36.700-04:00Somewhere along the way I've met a "Siobh...Somewhere along the way I've met a "Siobhan", so even though I'm American I knew how to pronounce it. I can empathize. I've gone through life giving my last name as "Lary, L, A, R, Y" because everyone wants to spell it like the first name Larry or the last name Leary.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-14473637154110852082012-07-22T12:17:58.176-04:002012-07-22T12:17:58.176-04:00The Lego games are a lot of fun. So maybe start collecting them for your son NOW...siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-31260702454435359422012-07-22T12:16:43.442-04:002012-07-22T12:16:43.442-04:00Glad you're pleased!
You're from the UK. ...Glad you're pleased!

You're from the UK. I assumed you knew how to pronounce my name. Here in the States, it's an entirely different matter.

Lego movie? I am extremely hesitant about that... I had planned on saving them for my son, but hey, my collegue bought lego mindstorm for his 5 year old so I can buy lego games for my 2 year old, no?

I love garden work. I can look at it for hours from the porch with a cold beer. Nice that somebody do it. This is truly an honour, and I'll make an effort to respond to this today, despite the hiatus. Just so you know, if someone else had nominated me, I'd have nominated you.

Oh, quick side note. I love Lego too, what are your thoughts on the announced Lego film? I'm wary, but Will Arnett as Batman could win me over.

http://kotaku.com/5921595/upcoming-lego-movie-sounds-almost-too-good-to-be-trueJayCluitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16972011198109066985noreply@blogger.com
