Maybe my problem is I like Cagney so much, it's hard to pick a favorite.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-35182445044424792832013-01-13T13:46:02.126-05:002013-01-13T13:46:02.126-05:00I agree completely - pulling the best out of every...I agree completely - pulling the best out of everybody else. This is also my favorite of the Busby Berkeley musicals, if nothing else than for Cagney's force of character!siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-50475084931692537012013-01-10T14:58:28.799-05:002013-01-10T14:58:28.799-05:00I liked this one quite a bit. I consider Cagney's best performance to be in Yankee Doodle Dandy so it was good to see him in another movie where he could exercise his song and dance skills.

You mentioned one of Cagney's lines, but I think Blondell has some great ones in this film. Maybe one of my favorite insults of all time is when she kicks her rival out of her apartment, the rival asks what she's supposed to do, and Blondell responds, "As long as they've got sidewalks, you've got a job." Another funny exchange between the two is when Blondell is introduced to the rival, whose name is Miss Rich, and Blondell starts to refer to her as Miss Bitch and corrects herself. It's delivered in a way that lets you know it was completely intentional.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-34181145485613720262013-01-10T02:01:38.974-05:002013-01-10T02:01:38.974-05:00No doubt the best Busby Berkeley musical I have se...No doubt the best Busby Berkeley musical I have seen to date. I know Cagney made his name as a tough guy, but I think he is so much better here and yes, he is a locomotive that pull the best out of everybody. This was the musical that made me overcome my resentments against musicals. Going into it with a "Oh God, not another BB musical" and then sit back with a biiig smile afterwards. Great review.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-43293031026964523392013-01-09T21:54:29.098-05:002013-01-09T21:54:29.098-05:00Thanks for the info! Naturally, they were not.

I really need to see Yankee Doodle Dandy again. It's one of my sister's favorite movies! He does an even better job in Yankee Doodle Dandy.Adolytsihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12266038228108057617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-27946027412825657322013-01-09T20:43:46.664-05:002013-01-09T20:43:46.664-05:00Oh yes, Blondell is terrific. And while Cagney's stiff-legged dancing style is hardly orthodox, it's hard not to get caught up in his obvious enthusiasm.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.com
