Although Mr. Mitchum's charms don't do a ton for me personally, I can definitely understand how they might for someone else. He's very... unique, but in a great way.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-50097303795671254002013-06-17T17:25:06.543-04:002013-06-17T17:25:06.543-04:00Out of the Past was my first pick for the Club and...Out of the Past was my first pick for the Club and watching it again got me started with noir month. I just love it. Of course, I have had a major crush on Mitchum since I was in junior high. It all started with watching him in Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison on TV.

Loved your review. I have to cover Throne of Blood before I get to mine.marie_dresslerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06334550550983418668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-44712870804736511772013-06-17T13:42:36.953-04:002013-06-17T13:42:36.953-04:00See, now, I hadn't noticed that. Something else to look forward to next time I see this one.

I didn't get around to discussing Jane Greer, but I definitely agree she's something else in this movie. As I said in my response to Steve's comment, I somehow keep underestimating this movie, and she's a part of what I underestimate; it's as if my brain thinks "nah, she's only okay." And then I watch it again and my brain is all "WHAT WAS I THINKING SHE'S SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!" She does a great job here of playing coy and slowly showing her true colors. siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-8907293533310018382013-06-17T12:02:37.950-04:002013-06-17T12:02:37.950-04:00Good review. I had never heard of it, but it looked interesting. I was very happy I saw it.

It's understandable that the two men in the film would stand out most for you, but the one who stood out most for me was Jane Greer. Her entrance is one of the best I have ever seen in a noir film. A while back when you reviewed Double Indemnity I commented that the only part that I felt was weak was that Stanwyck just wasn't believable to me as a woman so incredibly sexy that a man would be willing to kill for her. You were quite surprised. I tried to explain that I'm just not wired that way so it would take A LOT of woman to make it seem even believable for me. Well, Greer in this movie is that woman. I can totally believe Mitchum giving up everything for her.

One last note, if you haven't ever noticed, watch where the gun is aimed when it goes off in the final scene.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-31904578647323319962013-06-17T08:26:42.700-04:002013-06-17T08:26:42.700-04:00It's funny, I keep on underestimating this fil...It's funny, I keep on underestimating this film. As I mentioned in my piece, I've seen this four or five times. But each time I put it on, I somehow forget how good it is. And of course I always wind up being impressed. Over time, somehow, my brain seems to say "It's not as good as you remember it being," but then my brain is always wrong. I don't know why.

Mitchum is awesome. He's really the anguished soul of this movie.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4751168318018401735.post-25684513984109905652013-06-16T19:37:54.291-04:002013-06-16T19:37:54.291-04:00I completely agree. He makes such a great heavy in so many films, so it's a really surprising twist to see him as a good guy, or at least a sympathetic figure in this one.

I was knocked sideways by this film. I didn't know anything about it and now it's one of my favorite noirs.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.com
